1. Eat Often
While some people suggest you avoid eating until your belly is rumbling, that’s a recipe for disaster. If you let yourself get hungry you’re more likely to overeat.
Overeating isn’t going to do your weight loss effort any favors. If you wait too long between means you will find your blood sugar dropping, which will impact your focus and mood. When this happens, what do you do? Grab the first thing you can get your hands on. It’s never healthy, is it?
Don’t skip meals, don’t starve yourself. In fact, you should aim to eat every three hours or so. Just keep healthy snacks on hand.
2. Love It
Whatever you eat, do it slowly and mindfully. Stop eating your meals in front of the television. Don’t grab lunch at your desk. Take the time to respect the food on your plate and take it slow. You’ll enjoy your food far more this way and you’ll feel more satisfied when you’re done.
3. Treat Yourself
Don’t classify foods as bad or off-limits. You’re allowed everything, you just have to be mindful of the calories, portion, and fat content. Nothing is off-limits. It’s important that you let yourself have treats otherwise you’ll feel deprived, which makes you more likely to stumble.
4. Any Exercise
Forget all about finding the best workout. It doesn’t matter what workout is the most effective one. As far as you’re concerned, the most effective workout is the one that you will actually do and do consistently. Forget the rest of them. They don’t matter. Just choose the workouts and exercises that you will do!
5. Short Workouts
If you are someone who struggles to focus on your workouts or you don’t have a lot of time – opt for short workouts. It’s better than nothing. This is something you can do on days where you know you’ll struggle to fit exercise in. Just find something that provides you 15 minutes of exercise.
6. Sleep Well
You need to sleep. Sleep helps fight stress, allows your mind and body time to heal and reset, and matters to your diet. When you’re tired you tend to reach for fatty, sugary foods to provide instant energy. That will do your diet no favors. So, start getting to bed on time and work on your sleep pattern.
7. Good Carbs
We typically dismiss carbs as bad, but they’re not all equal. Fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains all contain carbs. They’re the good ones! Think about this as you build your meal plans. These are options that will help you feel fuller, and will also provide plenty of vitamins and minerals.
8. Spend Time With Friends
Learn to lean on your friends when you need support. Share your weight loss journey with them and have healthy catch-ups to enjoy social time.
9. Don’t Diet
This is probably the most important of the weight loss rules. Forget about diets. Instead, embrace a lifestyle of healthy eating. If you really want to lose weight and keep it off, then you can’t jump on and off different diets. You have to make a conscious choice to eat well forever.
