When you gain weight, the excess fat will store in your belly more easily if you have a lot of stress in your life.

A lot of people gain weight in the first place due to stress-eating, and the overproduction of cortisol in the body encourages the fat to be stored around the belly rather than being evenly spread out around the whole body.

This isn’t to say that stress is the only reason for the presence of belly fat. In many cases it’s because of overeating, a lack of exercise or health issues such as hypothyroidism which cause rapid weight gain.

Can Belly Exercises Target The Fat?

People believe that hundreds of crunches each day will be able to banish belly fat in a matter of weeks. However, this is certainly not the case. You can’t do targeted exercises and expect the fat to drop off that particular part of your body.

This is why people become discouraged when they’ve been doing stomach exercises for weeks but haven’t noticed a significant difference in their belly size. As you exercise, you’ll be toning certain parts of your body, but the muscles will become toned underneath the layer of fat. Only once this fat has been shed will you see the results of your intense stomach workouts!

It’s very rare for exercise alone to get rid of any type of excess fat. Your diet plays a massive part in how much weight you gain or lose. So if you’re trying to lose weight through exercise, then you need to follow a certain type of diet. You need to eat enough that you don’t gain weight. But, at the same time, you need to eat enough that you have the energy to exercise and go about your day.

Replace Meals With Shakes

If you’re trying to lose weight, then every calorie counts. Obviously, you want to cut down on the number of calories you eat, but if you cut out too many calories you risk depriving your body of vital nutrients, some of which are helpful for producing the energy necessary to exercise. Because of this, you should consider replacing certain meals with shakes. Shakes are great because you can stuff a bunch of vegetables and other healthy foods in at once and cover up the taste with a small amount of fruit. They’re a great way of getting lots of vital nutrients quickly and without ingesting too many calories.

Eat Low-fat Proteins

If you’re doing exercise regularly, especially intense exercises, then your muscles are going to need repair. Protein is an essential part of the workout process because it helps your body repair its muscles, which prevents injury. But, many of the traditional sources of protein can be a bit too high in calories for people trying to lose weight, which is why you need to stick to low-fat proteins. Food like lean chicken, nuts, and fish are all good sources of protein for those who are trying to shed the pounds.

Up Your Water Intake

If you’re exercising regularly,  your body will lose fluids through sweat. If you haven’t increased your water intake, then you should certainly do so. Water is also a great appetite suppressant. Exercise will make you feel hungrier as your body burns more calories. So, drinking more water, specifically ice-cold water, can be a great way of curbing your cravings.
