Get Dressed Every Day
Even if you never have to see anyone or do a Zoom meeting, you should still be getting ready and dressed each day as if you were going into the office. This puts you into the mindset of being ready for the day, as opposed to sitting around watching TV on a Saturday afternoon.
You need to show your mind that it’s time to work, so putting on work clothes (even comfy ones), doing your hair and makeup, showering, brushing your teeth, and anything else you would do to get ready for work outside the home, should still be done in home.
Work in Your Designated Workspace Only
Try to have a designated workspace in your home and only work in this space. When it’s time to take a break, step up from your workspace and go to another areas of your home if at all possible. This helps with work/life balance even when you run your own business in your own home.
You don’t need an office, but any workspace you can set up that you know is for working only will help tremendously.
Have Work and Break Times
You’ll need to set your own schedule, which has many benefits, but it also means you can be more tempted to either work too much or rest too much. Try to create a daily work schedule where you always ‘clock in’ or start working at the same time. Also make sure you have 2-3 breaks and a lunch break in the middle of your work shift, and you have a specific ‘clock out’ time.
Even if you run your own business and don’t answer to anyone, this really helps you strike a balance and know when you should be working, and when it’s time to rest.
Get Outside During Your Breaks
Furthermore, a really healthy habit when working from home is to go outside during your breaks. Take a nice walk, go for a short drive, or just sit outside and enjoy a snack or your lunch. This helps you get away from the ‘office’ and feel like you’re getting a proper break.
